What Is Winter League?

The Winter League combines the instructional practices with Chicago KICS coaches of our KICS Development Program (KDP) and the league play of the KICS Chicago Community League (CCL). It is an instructional program for players aged 5U-12U that introduces and develops the individual and team skills to prepare young players for our competitive travel teams. Participation in the KICS Winter League includes 6 practices with a professional coach, 6 games (against other teams in the Chicago KICS Winter League) and a uniform (jersey, shorts and socks). Players are divided by age groups to ensure safe, age appropriate practices and games in the following pools; 5-6U, 7-8U, 9-12U, All teams are offered as co-ed.

Goal & Values

Goal

To introduce and develop individual and team skills to players in a fun environment to prepare them for competitive play with our Travel teams through encouraging, active and organized instruction.

Values

  • Personal Growth:
It’s not where you start, it’s how you progress. We welcome any player interested in playing.
  • Teamwork:
Becoming a part of something bigger than one’s self. Learning to encourage, support and respect teammates and the game.

Structure

KICS Winter League combines fun, positive coaching with age appropriate games and skills to ensure development of fundamental soccer skills for young players. It consists of one professionally instructed soccer practice per week and weekly Friday games against teams in the league within your player's age division.

Practices
Each practice will focus on a basic skill and provide the player with an introduction, execution and progression of that skill.  All practices end with a one ball game to try and execute the skill of the day.

Games
Give the players a chance to work towards a goal and allow them to experience a game atmosphere and competition while challenging them to apply what they have learned in practice.
